It is as if the bustling life during the time before Christmas mirrors the many activities of the Forum: AustroMars, SPaceTie, PolAres, Sinkflug, New Horizons, SpaceCity Salzburg and however they were all called – they all meant ten years full of devotion towards space.
As it was done during the „Melange“ – thoughts towards space flight discussed during the AustroMars Mission – Gernot Grömer and Norbert Frischauf take a seat at a coffee table and comment the pictures of years gone by, good humoured, proud and also contemplative.
Many other members present some part of the big caleidoscope which is the Forum. Olivia Haider presents the new Website and surprises the visitors with the new project “Polarstern Preis”: An award, which will be given away towards persons who have rendered outstanding services towards the topics space and space flight. Before everyone moves into the magnificent “Kuppelsaal”, Gernot Grömer concludes the celebration with a widely noticed talk.
The biggest birthday surprise is presented by Prof. Lötsch, director of the museum. He offers spontaneously to show the fascinating collection of meteorites to the guests. Everyone enjoys this mostly exclusive guided tour through the nightly, quiet museum. The wonderful frescos on the roof are explained as well as all the exhibited pieces. At the end, Prof. Lötsch takes everyone up towards the roof of the building, where an amazing view over the lights of Vienna is a more than worthy closure of the celebration.
Project leader Michael Taraba says: „It was exactly what it was meant to be, a retrospect of the past years made from friends for friends. I am very proud to be a part of it.” Still on the roof, Norbert Frischauf resumes: „ASF (Austrian Space Forum)… those letters should really stand for Austrian Space Family!”
Happy Birthday, ASF!
